Privacy policy
Effective 11 October 2026 · applies to the Chat to Task Chrome extension (version 3.x) and chattotask.com
What the extension handles
| Data | When | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Text of a WhatsApp message | Only when you click “+” on that message or choose “Create task” on selected text | In the task, in your browser (chrome.storage.local) |
| Chat name, sender name and chat ID | With the task you create, so “Reply now” can reopen that chat | In your browser |
| Your tasks, notes, due dates and settings | When you create or edit them | In your browser |
| Google account email, name and picture | Only if you sign in with Google | In your browser, to show which account is connected |
| Task backup file (ChatToTask-backup.json) | Only if you sign in with Google and backup is on | In your own Google Drive |
The extension does not read your other chats, does not collect your contact list, and never sends WhatsApp messages by itself. Follow-up messages are typed into the message box and you decide whether to send them.
Google sign-in and Google Drive
Signing in is optional. If you sign in, Chat to Task asks Google for these permissions:
- drive.file: create, read and update only the files this extension creates. It is used for one backup file. The extension cannot see any other file in your Drive.
- userinfo.email and userinfo.profile: show which Google account the backup belongs to.
Chat to Task's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google is used only to provide the backup feature to you. It is not transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, and not read by humans.
You can sign out at any time in the extension's dashboard. You can also remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions and delete the backup file from your Drive.
Email and calendar features
“Email this task” and “Add to Google Calendar” open Gmail, Outlook, your mail app or Google Calendar with the task pre-filled. Nothing is sent until you send it yourself in that service, under that service's own privacy policy.
Permissions the extension uses
